The Secret Life of a Frenchie: What Grimly Really Does When I Leave the House
You know that look. The moment you pick up your keys, your Frenchie stops breathing. His eyes go wide. His bottom lip quivers. He turns into a sad potato with paws.
A Love Story in the Big Apple: Me and My Frenchie Grimly
Fourteen years ago, I left Italy behind and embarked on a new adventure in the United States. New York City became my home, a place that felt both exhilarating and overwhelming. But it wasn't until Grimly, my French Bulldog, entered my life that I truly felt at home.
Grimly is not just my pet; he is my best friend, my confidant, and the most charming New Yorker you'll ever meet. From the moment I brought him home, we forged an unbreakable bond. He adapted to city life with the ease of a true native—navigating the bustling streets, charming strangers with his squishy face, and developing a deep fascination for two things: subway rides and tennis balls.
Yes, you heard that right. Grimly is obsessed with the subway. While most dogs might shy away from the underground chaos, he thrives in it. The rumble of the trains, the sea of people, the occasional dropped snack—he takes it all in with wide-eyed enthusiasm. He even has his favorite station, where he eagerly waits for our train, his little tail wiggling in anticipation.
And then there are the tennis balls. If there is one thing that can divert his attention from a subway ride, it's a bright yellow ball bouncing down the pavement. He chases them with the determination of an athlete, proudly carrying them in his mouth as if he just won the championship of his life.
Our life together in New York is a beautiful mix of adventure and routine. We stroll through Central Park, visit dog-friendly cafés, and bask in the city's endless energy. But beyond the fun and excitement, Grimly has been my rock. In a city that never sleeps, he is my constant, my comfort, and my greatest source of joy.
This blog is a celebration of our journey together—the love, the laughter, and the everyday moments that make life with a Frenchie in New York City so special. Welcome to our story.

Mornings with a Frenchie are never dull, and today was no exception. Grimly woke up with his usual burst of energy, jumping onto my bed and demanding his morning belly rubs. After a quick walk through Williamsburg, where he made sure to greet every single person we passed (because, of course, everyone needs to acknowledge him), we headed back home for breakfast. But today wasn’t just any breakfast—it was a homemade, Frenchie-approved feast!
