Hi everyone,
You may have noticed that I haven’t posted on the blog for a while. Part of the reason is simple: I’ve been taking care of Grimly, my beloved dog. He had a sudden health scare, and my focus had to be entirely on him. On top of that, I had some issues with my computer—but mostly, it was because he needed me
The Summer That Changed Everything
This past summer, Grimly and I went on vacation to Fire Island, New York. It was supposed to be a carefree getaway, full of sun and laughter. But while we were there, I noticed a small lump under his neck. Being used to sleeping next to him every night, I could immediately tell it wasn’t normal.
At first, friends and locals reassured me not to worry. “It’s probably just a cyst or a small fat deposit,” they said. “Monitor it, and get it checked at the vet when you can.” Their words gave me some comfort, but deep down, I felt a growing unease.
The Two Longest Weeks of My Life
After returning home, I monitored the lump closely. Those two weeks before the vet appointment were absolutely terrifying. Grimly is my whole world—my family lives in Italy, and he is the one constant in my life. Every time I looked at him, my heart raced, imagining what could be wrong.
Finally, at the vet, the news hit like a thunderbolt: it was a tumor. I felt fear, panic, and disbelief all at once. Grimly looked at me with his trusting eyes, completely unaware of the seriousness of the situation.
Surgery, Recovery, and Community Support
The vet explained that surgery was necessary immediately. The cost was high, and I had to create a GoFundMe to cover the operation. It was humbling to ask for help, but the support I received from friends, family, and even strangers was overwhelming and deeply touching.
Thankfully, Grimly’s surgery went well. The following weeks of recovery required careful attention and patience, both from him and from me. I realized quickly that helping a dog heal after surgery is more than just keeping him comfortable—it’s about creating an environment where he feels safe and loved.
Products That Helped Grimly
I want to share some of the things that helped Grimly during his recovery. These are practical tools, not a sales pitch—just things I wish I had known before the surgery that made everything so much easier. You can find these on Amazon, and I’ve added my affiliate links to support the blog if you find them useful.
Helpful Items That Made Grimly’s Recovery Easier
Alongside proper veterinary care, there were a few practical things that truly made a difference during Grimly’s recovery. I had already explained the whole process in the post, but I also wanted to show the specific items that helped me take care of him more quickly and without unnecessary extra expenses. For example, being able to redo his bandage at home saved several additional vet visits, and using treats he genuinely loved kept him calm during dressing changes and stressful moments.
You’ll find the links to these items in the photos I’ve added throughout the post. I included them because they really made a positive impact for us, and I hope they can help you and your pet as well.
