Sunday Funday with My French Bulldog: Park, Bath & Tasty Treats!

Sundays are sacred in our home—not just for me, but especially for my French Bulldog, Grimly. If you have a Frenchie, you already know that they have a way of turning an ordinary day into an adventure full of snorts, zoomies, and an undeniable demand for attention. This past Sunday was no different! From a wild morning at the park to a soapy (and slightly dramatic) bath, followed by a delicious homemade dog-friendly treat, here’s a little glimpse into our perfect Frenchie Sunday.

Morning Madness at the Park

Every Sunday morning, Grimly wakes up with an agenda: get to the park ASAP! The moment I roll out of bed, he’s already bouncing around, giving me his signature “hurry up, human” look. I grab a coffee, his favorite ball, and we head out to his favorite spot in the city—a lively park filled with squirrels, fellow dog friends, and, of course, the occasional curious pigeon that Grimly insists on befriending.

The second I unclip his leash, he launches into full zoomie mode. Watching a French Bulldog run at top speed is like witnessing a bowling ball with legs—unstoppable, unpredictable, and utterly hilarious. Grimly’s biggest obsession? Subway sounds. We’re not even near a station, but the distant rumble of a train sends him into detective mode, ears perked, nose sniffing the ground as if he’s tracking down an invisible subway entrance.

After an hour of fetching (or rather, me fetching after Grimly refuses to return the ball), sniffing every leaf in sight, and making new friends, it’s time to head back home for part two of our Sunday ritual—bath time.

The (Dramatic) Frenchie Bath Experience

If there’s one thing that Grimly believes is entirely unnecessary in life, it’s a bath. Despite being a city dog who loves rolling on questionable surfaces, the mere sight of a bathtub sends him into his most theatrical performance. He stares at me, eyes wide, ears back, as if I’ve just betrayed him in the worst possible way.

Once he’s in, though, it’s all snorts and wiggles. I use a gentle, hypoallergenic dog shampoo to keep his skin healthy and his coat soft. Of course, the drying process is where the real fun begins. Grimly has a post-bath ritual: the “zoomie-dry.” The moment I wrap him in a towel, he breaks free and launches himself around the apartment at full speed, rubbing against every soft surface he can find like a dog possessed. Couch? Check. Rug? Check. My freshly washed bed sheets? Unfortunately, check.

After what feels like a mini tornado sweeping through my apartment, Grimly finally settles down, all clean and proud of himself. And what better way to reward him than with a homemade, dog-friendly treat?

A French Bulldog-Approved Sunday Treat: Peanut Butter & Banana Pupcakes

Since Frenchies can be prone to food sensitivities, I love making simple, tummy-friendly treats that are both healthy and delicious. These peanut butter & banana pupcakes are Grimly’s absolute favorite!

Ingredients:

  • 1 ripe banana, mashed
  • 1/4 cup natural peanut butter (make sure it’s xylitol-free!)
  • 1/2 cup oat flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 egg
  • 1/4 cup unsweetened applesauce

Instructions:

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a mini muffin tin with paper liners.
  2. In a bowl, mix together the mashed banana, peanut butter, and applesauce.
  3. Add the egg and mix until combined.
  4. Gradually stir in the oat flour and baking powder until you get a smooth batter.
  5. Spoon the batter into the muffin tin, filling each about 3/4 full.
  6. Bake for 12-15 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  7. Let them cool completely before letting your Frenchie dig in!

These pupcakes are soft, easy to chew, and made with simple, dog-friendly ingredients—perfect for rewarding Grimly after a long day of adventures.

Sunday Snuggles & The Perfect End to the Weekend

After a morning of zoomies, a dramatic bath session, and a belly full of pupcakes, Grimly does what he does best—curling up in a perfect little Frenchie loaf and snoring loud enough to wake the neighbors. And honestly, there’s no better way to end a Sunday than snuggled up next to my four-legged best friend, dreaming of the next adventure.
